WET VS DRY PET FOOD - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE

Is it better to feed your cat or dog wet food or dry food?

Pet foods are available in many different shapes, sizes and textures. One of the biggest decisions you'll need to make as an owners is whether to feed your pet wet or dry food.

It is not possible to say whether wet or dry pet food is best for your pet. The good news is that either type of pet food can provide your animal with the complete nutrition they need. Be sure to check for complete and balance nutrition on the pet food package.

Benefits of wet pet food :

  • Wet food has a higher moisture content and softer, so it can be easily eaten by animal with dental problems. Dental problems can cause so much pain in animals that they can become anorexic.

  • Add-on of flavor booster to encourage animals to eat.

  • Wet #petfood often contains higher amounts of protein and fat than dry food. These protein and fat sources are providing energy and components for the metabolism. Often there is very little or no wheat in wet food, although there can still be good carbohydrate provided in any vegetable ingredient.

Benefits of dry pet food :

  • Dry #petfood is less expensive and economical way to do it.

  • Dry pet food has a longer shelf life. It can be left out in the home, to allow animals to eat on their own schedule.

  • Bags of kibble require less packaging than cans of food, leading to less garbage created.

  • It can also be good for your pet's dental hygiene- some dry foods are specially formulated and shaped to clean teeth as they're chewed.

Can you combine wet and dry pet food together?

Since both wet and dry food offer different advantages, the obvious conclusion would be to simply feed your pet a combination of the two. In principle there's nothing against this, but you shouldn't mix the two types of food and should always serve them at different times. Due to wet food's high energy content, you should also make sure that the daily intake isn't exceeded.
