What Fruits Can Dogs Eat?

Fruits can be a healthy snack for dogs, but not all fruits are safe for canine consumption. While many people foods are perfectly safe for dogs, some are very unhealthy and dangerous, so its critical to learn which fruits dogs can eat.

Apples

Apples are a good source of Vitamin A and C and dietary fibers. You can safely feed it to them, but make sure to remove the seeds. Seeds can contain small amount of cyanide. Give them in small bits for a nice meal treat.


Bananas

Dogs can eat bananas. Bananas are rich in potassium, biotin, vitamin and fiber. However, banana is high in sugar content. Thus it should only be given as a treat, not as a main diet for your dogs.


Kiwi

Yes, most dogs can eat kiwi. It mostly water and contain Vitamin C, E and K and sugar. Cut into small pieces and feed in moderation make this a good threat for your dogs.



Oranges

Many dogs love oranges and can safely eat them in moderation. Oranges are high in Vitamin C, A and also potassium. However it is also high in sugar and carbohydrate. Thus it is best to feed your dogs in moderation. Vets do recommend only offering your dog the juicy flesh minus the seed.


Blueberries

Blueberries are superfood rich in antioxidants and is great for human and canine alikes. This superfood makes an excellent treat. Your dogs will love this treat, as it is pack with Vitamin C and K, magnesium, calcium, as well as low in fat and sugar.


Watermelon

Yes, dogs can eat watermelon. Just don't feed the rind and seed as it might cause indigestion for your dogs. Watermelon contain Vitamin A, B-6 and C, as well it is very hydrating due to the high water content.


How To Feed Your Dog Fruits


  • Introduce to them gradually. Don't serve a big bowls of fruits in one go, as this may cause an upset stomach. You can make fruits popsicle and it is a good treat in a hot summer day.

  • Ensure all the peels and seed of the fruits are remove and wash clean. Cut the fruits into small bite size pieces for easy digestion.

  • Be sure that the fruits you are giving your dogs are safe for them to eat. If you are not sure, you can always ask your vet for information and guidelines.
